Should the cow cutouts at govt. springs park be removed?

I think the cow cutouts at Gov't springs park should be removed.

They were fine as a temporary installation. i assert they are not appropriate to be permanent.

i feel they are cheesy, tacky, etc. and not really "art". The park would look much better without them.

How do you feel about them?

Finally, does anyone know how we ended up with them there anyway?

I like them even though they're looking a little weather-beaten. In fact, I think I may appreciate them more because they are a little weather-beaten. It kinda describes, visually, how long ago it was that the cowboys would drive their herds of cattle down, or I guess up, the trail stopping for them to water at the "waterhole". Lots of history there.

how about a nice impressive marble statue or bronze plaque instead of the cut outs?

the city is always talking about making things look better.

if these were in someone's yard on Garriott, the city would be apoplectic over them.

Oh, they're not so bad. They're kind of charming. As long as they are painted and repaired regularly, keep them. They don't distract any use of the park. I think there can be many ways to improve the look of Enid coming in from East 412, mostly in getting rid of or repairing unsightly buildings. I think the Welcome to Enid signs are the ones that need to be replaced with something that is more updated.

Let me clarify. As you know, a lot of that property along 412 has been for sale. The city could purchase the property and tear down the old house or building, etc. That would be getting rid of it. Even an interested private party could purchase the property as it comes up for sale and make it more attractive. All those things have been discussed

Not a fan of the moo-cows. The idea? Yes. Forget about expense for a minute and imagine what those would look like if they were real sculptures.

I also agree that the look of Enid coming in from the east on 412 (Which would technically be going west on 412) needs improvement. The previously proposed "Sooner1-magicrat Lake" would be a fine addition on the South Side of the road and help distract from the crappy houses. The value of the property those homes sit on would go up and likely precipitate their sale and improvement. Problem fixed. NEXT!

I thought they were OK when it was just one or two sculptures. I think the rest are overkill.

They were donated to the City.

I made the suggestion earlier today that the City should auction them off and let people put them in their own yards :)

it is a bit of a stretch to call them "sculptures".

harold holden does sculptures. nice ones.

those cow cutouts are pieces of sheet metal that have had a cutting torch applied to them over a template.

And what kind of message does it send having the Native American on the other side of the creek just staring at the cowboys and the steers? Maybe the Native American should have a tear streaming down his face.

Someone had some great intentions by doing those for Enid. And like I said, it is a cool idea in principle. It just doesn't come off well. But Cindy's right. They won't go anywhere anytime soon because they were donated.

Dibs on the Native American. I'd love to put him in my backyard looking over my fence so my nosey neighbor knows that he's being watched too.
