This issue for me is about water waste.

Specifically, there is a local company that is buying up residential land, tearing down the dilapidated houses on the land, then seeding and keeping the property a beautiful lush green.

Kudos for tearing down the eyesore houses.

What's with wasting water to keep a vacant lot green?

It's OK not to waste the water, seriously, no one would mind.

Maybe they actually want to keep the land looking good, and not just an eye sore of rubble and dirt? I applaud this, besides if they want to sell this land again at a later point it will sell better with an actual yard. Its not really wasting water to grow things..unless there is a water ban going on then they are doing nothing wrong.

IMO if they are paying their water bill, then they are 'using' water, not 'wasting'.
People should be glad that they are cleaning up instead of letting dilapidated homes continue to be an eyesore/place for skunks/rats to congregate and spread diseases.

last time i checked we are in an EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT. that means water should be conserved. course, i grew up in Cali and we didn't waste water there. I was shocked at the way Okies use water when i moved back home. and still am.

my daughter's friend told us his neighbor waters all the time, even the middle of the day. i need to find the address so i can report them.

from the Norman Transcript:
quote:
Mandatory water conservation measures in Norman include no sprinkler use or irrigation on Wednesdays and Thursdays, odd/even watering days (depending on street address) and no sprinkler use or irrigation between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. source

but hey, y'all wanna use up all your water for greenery, go right ahead. but don't whine when ya got nothin to drink!!

They'll be sure to flush the stools often so Norman can have more water.

I haven't heard that Enid is doing water rationing. If we were, I could see the issue, but as far as I know, we are not and if they want to pay to use their water in that manner, it's pretty much up to them. I agree that if it's being used, it's not really wasting it.

Considering the entire state is in a burn ban, it's more dangerous to allow things to get dryer than they need to be than it is to use water. Dry grass = fire hazard.

maintained grass really isn't much of a fire hazard. i'm not convinced that lush green is necessary. but i see your point, Tammy. the dilapidated homes were probably much more of a fire hazard.

(wishin my grass was green...) OU isn't even all green and they have their own wells. i suppose ppl prioritize differently in extreme drought. *shrug*

Water the grass. Where are the bleeding hearts? Grass is a living organism and should not be denied the right to live.

Seriously, the City of Enid and the citizens of Enid are going to have to very soon make some choices about water and future sources.

I don't have to wait for mandated rationing when the obvious is clear.

Just because you can afford to pay the water bill doesn't mean you ought to water when it isn't necessary and that is a waste.

I can barely afford to pay my water bill and when I can afford it, I conserve simply because it's the right thing to do, especially in times like these.

Yep, the "eyesores" were removed and cleared of the land. I think that's great, who said it wasn't? In fact, I'd like to see some of the homes in my Historical District neighborhood be torn down from lack of care by their owners.

I do want to add that I appreciate well kept properties and green lawns. Overwatering isn't necessary to keep your lawn green. I have lots of neighbors who have fantastic looking lawns and foilage. This kind of water use is not what I'm talking about.

All talked out

I appreciate every gallon of water we use and no, I don't try waste it. When I need hot water in the kitchen, I put a gallon container under the faucet to catch the cold water till the hot water starts coming through. Later we use that for the coffee pot.
Priorities, yep, you betcha!
