If the information is readily available for anyone that wants it, there comes a point when people have to responsible for getting it or not. No one spoon feeds me the stuff I know. I find out by going to the meetings, asking questions of the appropriate people, and reading whatever I can find on a subject. Grown ups should not have to be babysat. The City can put it out there all day long and people still have to go get it on their own. They put it on the agendas, they put it in the paper, they send out press releases to all the media, they put it on their website and they now even have interactive live chat and anyone can send emails or go to City Hall and meet with people. What more should they do? As far as who was specifically consulted, I know some businesses were but I don't know right off which ones - but that's something Whitney Box could tell you for sure. I know they did consult with business development people and were assured that the very minute changes would not drive people away or discourage businesses from coming here because one, we are following the industry standard and two, businesses know there are codes they have to follow in ANY town they choose to locate in.

I'm glad they did consult with the Alliance. That's a good step. But, as for the question "what more should they do?' The answer is, "whatever it takes." Please understand I know the frustration. I always have said "I can print it, but I can't make them read it." The city has done some good things in reaching out through the web site and the other things you mention. I continue to think it is important that there be more dialogue on all these issues. I'm just telling you that if the city really does reach out to people on issues like this and works hard to get their input, then it is harder for them to come back on the city and claim to not have been informed.

Frankly I don’t see Enid government doing enough. That said I am sure that its doing all it can and that’s saying a lot considering the segment of the community that’s seems set on crippling its ability to accomplish anything. I think Enid needs to be more aggressive in its code enforcement. Oh the hue and cry of the reductions of freedoms echo loudly, yet without city codes that are enforced a community soon looks like a third world country with trash, weeds, and cars on blocks in front yards. If one wishes to live in a community one agrees to comply to the standards set by the community. If one does not want to forego a bit of their freedom by complying with community standards, they can live in the country and run amok, while wallowing in all the trash and weeds they wish. The quest for a clean nice viable community is a noble one that benefits the community as a whole. If it takes city ordnance's to encourage people to do what they should be doing anyway, then so be it. We are not the nice polite society that we were in the 1950’s that policed its self, we have become a society of rude self centered spoiled brats that throw tantrums when told to behave.
