Flat out, we need new leadership. As it stands I think that the City Manager job needs to be refilled with someone who has different idea of where Enid should be. With potholes destroying cars, public unrest not being addressed and even ignored its obvious leadership doesn't care for the majority and really just care for the either wealthy or the people who can bribe them. This may not be the case and I could be wrong I will admit I have no personal experience inside that building but I do know from the civilian aspect of living within Enid. I have seen pot holes go YEARS without fixing even after many complaints, but we can spend millions on a new hotel. Instead of new hotels in which we have many of, we should spend millions on fixing the streets. Build new, updated parks, find the small things that will make us a great community instead of a big town trying to make ourselves bigger and that way causing our utter shutdown. I know if i wasn't moving back to take care of family I would have NEVER returned to Enid because its POOR governmental leadership.

It's not the case at all. I'm not sure what you mean by "new leadership" - we just seated 4 new people to a 7 person Commission and it's the youngest Commission in the history of Enid. They've only been in office for 3 months - that's pretty new. The City Manager we have has only been here a little over 4 years and there have been a lot of good accomplishments in that time. Have you ever met him? Have you ever had a conversation with him?
I'm also curious as to where this millions being spent on a new hotel is taking place because it most certainly isn't in Enid. The City is not spending a penny on any hotel and while yes, we do have some, we cannot, in fact, accommodate people with the ones we have. When the soccer tournament comes to Enid, several people have to stay in other towns. I don't have the numbers in front of me but I believe the last time I heard about our hotel studies they said that during the week they were at a pretty high occupancy rate - we have a lot of people that stay here during the week for work, so hotels are actually something we can use more of. The City, however, is not paying for them.
The parks - there are 36 parks in Enid and there are things going on there, too, to see what we need to do with them. Do we need to keep them all, change the purpose of some of them, etc. There is a study being done about a new park facility and the assistant city manager can tell you all about it if you're interested.
You are more than welcome to come to the study sessions that take place before the commission meetings and see what gets talked about and the presentations that are given. A lot of information goes through those. It seems like your comments are based on things you "remember" and not really on how things ARE. I would invite you to become involved in the community and meet the people that you have questions about. Things are not always what they seem.

Coming from someone that is on the board of leaders it seems highly unlikely you would be prone to see what others are seeing. To stand corrected about not being in Enid, I PERSONALLY am not but my wife moved there a few weeks ago to scout for a house for us to move into. She has updated me on the state of what it looks like, and well despite a few aesthetics she says Enid is the same as it was before we moved. And to be honest the people of Enid should be able to vote for the city manager. It should be a electoral position not one the main body of the cities leadership could appoint. Back door deals can give someone a position easily.

MR.BENSON WAS SELECTED AFTER A QUITE LONG SEARCH. HE WENT THROUGH MANY INTERVIEWS, AND OUT OF THE GROUP TRYING FOR THE JOB HE WAS THE MOST QUALIFIED, AND IN MY OPINION HAS DONE A GREAT JOB.

“This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.

Zechariah 7:9-10

Lets follow the example's in the Tanakh.

I just don’t see what your (or your wife) is seeing JM. What I do see is a city government that is concerned with the future of Enid, and trying to ensure that Enid remains a viable place to live.

I live in Tulsa Monday thru Thursday and spend Friday thru Sunday in Enid, and plan to retire to Enid. In the three days a week I am here I see streets constantly being repaired, and by reading the Enid paper I see that the city is trying to keep Enid on the map and not another city that dried up.

I see people in Enid that care and want what’s best for the city, and are willing to roll up their sleeves and do what’s best (which is sometimes not the most popular).

I also see people that would rather ***** and moan about what’s being done, without being involved themselves. No matter what, they whine about anything that being done. “Why do we need this or that”, looking at the issues from a “how does it benefit or not, me” stance rather than “how does this affect the community”.

Enid is a city full of potential, and it can become a shining gem on the Oklahoma plains or it can become just another weathered old town that has fallen into decay. It’s future depends on whether or not its citizens have the vision to save it.

Making the City Manager's position an elected position is about the worst idea I've heard.

Actually, I was one of the biggest critics. I just decided to do something rather than complain.

Agreed. The person that has this position has to be qualified to do it - it's not something any citizen could or should do. Considering 7 people vote on whether to hire or fire the City Manager the likelihood of "back door deals" is pretty slim. And a ridiculous assertion.

Leave us tax paying hard working citizens alone.
I bought A house a year ago. It is located on a narrow 2 lane street. It has A one car driveway. it is in an area where most all the traffic is people who live in the neighborhood. I got A warning from the city that parking in my yard was not legal. We have 2 cars and drive both of them every day. No junkers. So now I have to park my car on the street. On trash day the truck has A hard time getting to the poly-carts because of the narrow street. I moved to Enid in 1963 and have paid my taxes and bought everthing local. I have 0 crime record. I have had enough of these things that have changed. Thinking real strong about moveing to another town in another county. It would save me alot of money.
Rant over for now.
