Tammy, why can't the city webmaster just set up a public voting booth online so you can really get a feel for what the city wants on ANY issue ? No matter how boring or tedious it is.
It could allow you to hit the nail on the head every time for this community.
Cut down on the complaints and make certain that
the council gets elected again to run the city for another term.
Way cheaper than holding any election.

Unfortunately the cost of setting up an online voting system and issuing every Enid voter with a log on ID and password would be prohibitive. Add to that the fact that not everyone has Internet access or know how to navigate online, and the billions of ways the system could be hacked makes the possibility unviable. In a perfect world it would be nice though.

I guess I wasn't very clear. I was just proposing an unscientific polling system.
2/3rds of the registered electorate barely show up at the voting booth anyway.
It could give the council a barometer of the coming storm .
It wouldn't be any more complicated than what the paper does with its online voting .
The 21st century is here and if your not familiar with technology then you need to pull your head out of the sand .

I suspect that if the populace were allowed to vote for a city manager the situation would probably be taken care of.

Well Tammy you have to realize a MAJORITY of people have no way to vent their frustration. This will be just that at most time if a majority of the population comes. Enid has a lot of people with false sense of superiority in a lot of respects and that creates an issue where you have a room full of "alpha's" stuck together you have a bunch of wolves fighting for the best piece of meat and over the way the pack should go.

You really want to elect the City Manager? You want to allow any unqualified moron run for City Manager and possibly becoming essentially the CEO of our tow? Yes, oldrock, that's a brilliant idea.

What you fail to realize is that the citizen's of Enid already do have a hand in the hiring of the City Manager. They elect councilmen/woman who have the power to remove him when his contact is up and replace him with someone else. They choose not to do that because he is doing on hell of a job. Does he please everyone? No. Not everyone will pleased with anything. I dare you oldrock. I triple dog dare you to go down to the City Hall and talk with Mr. Benson. He may not change your opinion about issues, but I promise you will realize that the man knows what the heck he is talking about.

And the difference between voting a moron to CEO of a buisness, town, boat, or really anything... and Governor/Mayor or any other electoral vote really doesn't make a convincing argument for or against.

I may not be the best to be saying this but "beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as is success. What one likes the other dis-likes. All that can be said is i'm sure he tried. I am still in Delaware so I hold no right to really say anything about CURRENT affairs since i have been gone about 3 yearsish
