If you should happen to be watching soccer, and someone should actually score a goal...why does the scorer immediately start racing around the field like he's discovered the secret of life? His fellow teammates are trying to congratulate him, but he insists on running at full speed in the opposite direction...is he afraid his mates will poke him with a cattle prod? It seems such childish, boring behavior. Well, I feel better now!

I'll agree with you except on one point. You said, "it seems such childish, boring behavior." I disagree. Its easily the most exciting thing that happens in a soccer game. The most boring behavior in a soccer game is the game itself. Maybe it has something to do with how very little scoring is done in soccer. I've seen some hockey players do the same thing and the games are very similar except for their field.

But you are correct about the action itself. Can you imagine Adrian Peterson smashing into the endzone to score a touchdown and then immediately start sprinting back down field in celebration? Somehow I'd bet he'd get flagged for excessive celebration don't you?

After the chap scores he can be shot from one designated sniper chosen before the game. The sniper has to shoot within the 24 second clock. Thus a moving screaming target is harder to hit.

I like your explanation Rupe...at least it would add some spice to the event. I guess one problem is that I really don't understand the rules and strategy of the sport. For instance, what's offside, and what do the penalty cards mean? Why are unruly fans tolerated? What idiot thought those damn vuvuzelas were a perfect fit at the World Games. Well, I do admire the players' footwork, but on the whole, it's like watching grass grow or paint dry. Suspect this sport is best enjoyed while sitting in your favorite pub.
