Once again Enid ran into a buzzsaw courtesy of Tulsa Union, 51-14. The Plainsmen did their best, but the likes of TU, Jenks and Midwest City are simply overpowering. Frankly the score was not as close as it sounds. The only real chance Enid had was if the TU bus had mechanical problems. Enid has a very competitive team this year, but as long as the road to the state championship goes through those premiere schools, it will be a very long season indeed. Perhaps 7A would be a good place for the super powers. I must admit it is exciting to watch the top tier teams play.

I attended a high school in northern California with a student population of over 4,000. Believe over 400 boys went out for the varsity football team...they only suited up around 65. The competition was merciless, and the talent level was exceptional. We didn't have an edge over neighboring schools as they were all of the same size. I agree with you...large schools have an overwhelming advantage in sports. Oklahoma probably needs a 7A classification for the heavy weights...but that would probably hurt Enid's feelings. Anyway, I really enjoy watching the big dogs play. BTW, our high school football coach was a young fella named Bill Walsh...in the long term, I think he did well.

When I was in highs school, kids who were good enough to start for Enid High, refused to play because of the coaching staff. That coaching staff was headed by a fella named Craig Simmons. I wonder what high school program he's off being a douchebag at now?
I myself was discouraged from even trying out for the baseball team by the head coach. That man is now in charge of entire school district.
