The members of Occupy Wall Street may be as unwieldy, paradoxical, and inconsistent as those of us living in the real world. But that is precisely why their new approach to protest is more applicable, sustainable and actionable than what passes for politics today. They are suggesting that the fiscal operating system on which we are attempting to run our economy is no longer appropriate to the task. They mean to show that there is an inappropriate and correctable disconnect between the abundance America produces and the scarcity its markets manufacture.

And in the process, they are pointing the way toward something entirely different than the zero-sum game of artificial scarcity favoring top-down investors and media makers alike.

Not a phase. One step in a plan to collapse the economy and the country. Ignorance is bliss.

Looks like a showdown between Snake Oil Sot and those Dirty Educated Hippies.

As long as 'the fight' is in New York i'm bettin' on those Dirty Hippies. The Sot could never pass the NYC gun laws. And i'll check on the legality of promoting the use of snake oil inside the city limits.

The power brokers are those who buy and sell politicians. They buy and sell policy. They have bought and sold this country.

There is Darwinian Capitalism and Social Capitalism. Social Capitalism builds a civilization. Darwinian Capitalism bleeds a civilization. Darwinian Capitalists have bought our government, our courts, and our jobs.

The protests on Wall Street are spreading around the country and are the first stirrings of realization that our economic problems are intensified by the impersonal personage of the Corporation.

They are there now because the GOP policies (or rather lack of = deregulation and no federal oversight) took away their future.

But I agree, ignorance is bliss. So quit being so ignorant, SOT.

LOL

They are engaging in a communal shout. They have no clue what the path forward is, but they know that the status quo sucks. Frankly, they don't need to propose a solution. There is power in clearly defining the problem.

Unfortunately, the problem lies in the inability of business to invest profitably in the United States. Corporations have two trillion dollars in cash on their books right now, and none of it is going to hire American workers. Two trillion can buy a whole lot of Chinese labor. Until that issue is addressed, along with the devaluation of real estate, our expanding national debt, and the power of the banking industry, the protests shall be largely in vain.

I'm currently working to bring about 300 jobs back from China to the U.S. It's a drop in the bucket, but I do what I can.

For most of the communities here in the South, 300 jobs would be INCREDIBLE. I know our community would love to get them, as long as they are non-polluting and adhere to fair labor/wage laws.

Good for you, Fred!

GBG,

These jobs will probably end up in Colorado, and California.

The weakness in the Chinese labor market is employee turnover at present. Even among skilled labor a turnover rate of 50% PER MONTH is not uncommon. It is almost impossible to stabilize and improve a factory with that sort of turnover. That is the argument we are using to insource some of these high risk manufacturing operations.

Well, Fred, don't you suppose that eventually this protest might grow strong enough to force a solution to that very problem?

I mean, don't you think that the protesters are adressing the issue?
