kenlori's trollspeak this morning is lamer than usual. Neither the Episcopal nor the Catholic nor the Methodist nor the Presbyterian nor the Lutheran nor the Congregationalists interpret the Bible literally and furthermore, for nearly 2000 years there were NO CHRISTIAN denominations that interpreted the Bible literally. Fundamentalism is a recent Christian movement and basically relies on followers to be ignorant and credulous.

The Old Testament is Jewish, the Jewish faith does not interpret the OT literally. (which is what kenlori means by "believing it to be the Word of God".) Note to kenny, all the denominations I listed believe the Bible to be the word of God but we don't intepret symbolism, metaphor, allegory as literal fact.

"You are the salt of the Earth" does not mean Christians are composed of sodium chloride.

I think a lot of organizations use the term 'church' only for tax purposes...including Obama's Chicago church the United Church of Christ.
And every fundie evangelical church, especially the megachurches, heck even the Catholic church would have to lose its tax exempt status b/c of its anti-abortion and anti-gay political agendas.

Any church that fought slavery would have had to lose tax-exempt status. Any church that marched with Dr. King. Any church that protests nuclear arms. Any church that stands outside the School of the Americas. Any church that tries to put creationism in public school or pray at graduation or football games and especially Liberty University church officials who get box seats at Republican conventions.

Quite the opposite. "Fundies" believe that God has placed us in charge of the earth and its creatures. I do not know what "fundie" churches you have beend attending, but I am certain that they told you this since you were there. Roll Eyes

The one's that I've been to didn't come out and actually call enviromentalism "evil" but they snicker under their breath and call enviromentalists tree huggers and godless liberals.

You're a hard one to define, ken. I see one of your posts that makes sense and then later you say that a particular denomination isn't Christian enough because they don't sit there wide eyed and empty waiting on some elocuting, southern drawling guy with a plastic pompadour to fill up their heads with HIS idea of Jesus. Maybe your kind doesn't like them because they don't wave their hands enough or rock in their pews. As a former Catholic kid, I KNOW what kind of BS comes out of these so-called houses of God. On numerous occasions I was referred to as a member of the Great Whore of Babylon. On one occasion, I was 7 yrs old and hearing this from a fire and brimstone(and Jack Daniels) preacher that lived on our street.

I don't know why I should even worry about the Christians controlling the laws. You guys can't even get together long enough to get along without BEARING FALSE WITNESS and CASTING JUDGEMENTS against each other. Isn't THAT frowned on by your god or are you guys exempt from HIS judgement because you believe you're the right version of Christian?

Like T just said...If all you godly folks would focus your energies on concrete things instead of pitting yourself against invisible, intangible forces, who knows what could be accomplished!

Once again you use falsehoods, false assumptions and anti-Christian bigotry to make unvalid arguments. Why waste your time?... Because you do not possess the skills required to conduct an honest conversation! You are all about 'baffle them with BS'!

True! This is why I do not think that we should go down that road. Obama is already forcing church run organizations to provide services that the churches consider to be immoral. Of course, these church organizations should have never accepted government funding in the first place...

The dude wants to debate whether the Earth is flat. It is not flat. Go look. See the curvature?

The dude wants to debate the "theory" of evolution. Evolution is a fact, go look. See the fossils?

There's yer debate, all the rest of yer crap is Luddite chicanery.

Over in the Baptist Student Union there's a poster of a snake swallowing the Earth and the heading reads "Don't believe the Lie of Evolution." Last year two Southern Baptists declared biology majors "b/c they were going to prove evolution false". Still waiting.

Didja know that even Liberty University teaches Evolution? D'ya know why? They can't get college accreditation, their Education majors can't get teacher creds, if they don't.

Look up Christian fundamentalism, it started in the 19th century. You know, like 1800 plus years after the year of Our Lord. Now you expect us to believe you know something about the Christian religion as well as Dinosaurs on the Ark with Noah?

Christ tells Christians to go out and work for justice but according to you all they should do is fast, pray and give $ to the preacher. You'd be better off in one of those cult's compounds, cut off from society. Tis devoutly to be wished...

He does? By justice, do you mean that Christ wants us to go out teach others that he is the only way to his father - like he told us? Or is that just another metaphor since what Jesus is quoted as saying is politically incorrect?

kenny, you can research the hundreds of verses that deal with justice, start with Christ's direction to love thy neighbor as thyself.

If you can't figure them out, join a non-fundie church and attend Sunday School regularly.

Not sure why you don't get it, but a Christian university that truly believes "the truth" as you say, ought to refuse to teach "the lies" as a matter of principle.

But the point to my anecdote is that you Christian fundamentalists are intellectually dishonest. You preach a version of "truthiness" that you sacrifice on the altar of financial gain. No one forces them to seek college accreditation for the Education program.
